I walked into work. “Sybase has crashed”, they told me. I didn’t say a word, just sat down at the terminal and started typing commands. It was worse than I had expected. I began the process of recreating the DB from scratch. I kept running into complications, the disk was full, the wrong backup got loaded, the file was in use, the server would freeze. I remained stoically at the terminal, patiently working around each complication. Time crept by. What should have been a five hour fixe turned into twelve… still the clocked ticked, still I sat at the terminal typing, waiting as each command took hours to complete. Mistakes were costly. File sizes in the 1.5 to 3 gig range made any move laborious. I am still here… at my terminal… typing…
