Community is one of the foundational tenets of the web, and one reason why bloggerdom has become such a driving force behind the web and what people use it for. GeoURL.org is a website that speciallizies in bringing people together, or at least letting people know who they’re close too. Don’t mind the awefull interface, that will improve… we hope… but the application is pretty darn cool… if you ask me…

  1. If community is ONE of the foundational tenets of the web…what are some of the others? One must wonder if bloggerdom is about community or about voice? If I had to vote I would say that bloggerdom is more about giving people a voice and empowering conversation then anything else. But alas, maybe it’s just me.

  2. The free distribution of information is another foundational tenet of the web, and giving people an outlet for creative expression is another reason why bloggerdom has become such a driving force in the websphere.

Isn’t conversation about community? You’re playing semantics now.

  3. From the American Heritage Dictionary:

    community – noun

    3. a. Similarity or identity: a community of interests. b. Sharing, participation, and fellowship.

    conversation – noun

    1. A spoken exchange of thoughts, opinions, and feelings. a talk.

Conversation is only one part of community, and though it fosters and encourages community, it remains only an important aspect of a larger whole.
