Friday, March 17th — I haven’t written anything down since the Aran Islands. The following morning on the 14th, we took a day just to relax. The riding on Inishmoor wore us both out, and I was begining to feel a little like I was going to come back from my vacation feeling as tired and worn out as when I left. So while Jon wandered around the Galway, I layed around my hotel room and flipped through the channels of the TV. At around two or three, I stepped out to the cafe next door to give the maid…

A note about the photo first: I edited this one a bit more than I usually do, because this is what I saw in my mind and imagination. I’ll post the companion shot for this one later. Now the journal entry: March 14th — Woke up this morning feeling crappy as usual, but rested well enough. Showered and went to the Bistro, a dark wood paneled place, and imminently suited to my tastes this morning. The sun is streaming in from the windows, and some easy listening station is playing over the speakers. I’m starting to relax and really enjoy…

So much newness almost puts me outside myself. Its a feeling of being unable to quite process all I’m seeing, and so I go into recording mode, not really understanding or comprehending, just observing. I’m trying not to get lost, and to remember what it was I wanted to experience while here, but at the same time, expectations can never be quite what the reality of something is like.…

Here are my journal entries, as I wrote them. I’ll be posting my journal entries with the photos to provide a little context. March 12th — Where to start. The flight was tolerable, though I didn’t sleep as much as I needed to. The customs people in Manchester were snippy, not at all nice like they were in Gatwick or in Dublin. Things I want to remember: Dublin is like my memories of New York, only without the tall buildings. It’s dirty, full of little shops (at least downtown where we were), and there was a lot less of the…

Arrived safely, and are having a good time. This was the first chance we’ve had to find a internet cafe and check in. Can’t write much now, but I plan to come back this evening and post some of the journal entries I’ve been keeping.Catch you later!

The Little Men Who Love Little House – Why boys like girls books. By Emily Bazelon I read rather broadly when I was a kid, mostly because I would run out of books of my own and have to resort to whatever I could find around the house.
