I have been writing on the web since 2000. I am a christian , a photographer, an occasional poet, a recovering dreamer, an occasional philosopher, a software developer, an autodidact, and I resemble the INFP personality type.

Update: Ok, so it turns out that Federal Taxes are pay-as-you go, which means they are due when you earn the income. Most employers do this for you. If you’re self employed, you can pay estimated taxes quarterly. But You can’t not pay until the end of the year. Bummer. This IRS article says a bit more on the subject.—-Ok, like most people I have my employer withhold taxes each year, and I usually get a small return. And I was thinking, because Jeremy is having to do his own withholding because he is currently freelancing, how much money am…

Stefan G. Bucher’s DAILY MONSTER “A growing collection of curious creatures and the stories behind them.”

It was on the way home yesterday, and he was wearing a very funny hat. It was made of straw and was decorated with wild bits of fuzz and pieces of string the color of cotton candy. Apart from the hat, the gentleman was distinguishly dressed, as though on his way out the door a sudden fit of pique seized him and he felt the need for a bit of mardi gras.

Well, I’m well and truly tired of driving now. I covered about 2000+ miles between Sat and Mon. The trip down to Dallas with Jon was pretty crazy, occasionally harrowing and for the most part very very long. ;)But I’m home now, and I’m in need of a roommate. Applicants can contact me via email. ;)Jon is unpacked and ready to start the spring semester at the University of Dallas. I have the whole apartment to myself. I think I shall throw a party, so expect invitations in the mail sometime soon.Addendum: Because it sounds confusing on a second reading,…

The holy blitz rolls on | Salon Books The Christian right is a "deeply anti-democratic movement" that gains force by exploiting Americans’ fears, argues Chris Hedges. Salon talks with the former New York Times reporter about his fearless new book, "American Fascists." By Michelle GoldbergI found the interview surprisingly insightful, (even if the interviewee’s personal theology occasionally gives rise to slight problems). I’m curious about my readers thoughts, because I tend to be more forgiving than some.If you miss it let me point out so you don’t the fact that the interview is speaking of a specific group of evangelicals…

On a mid winters eve In a small country town My thoughts drift and float As my eyes fluttered down And I listen while I sit To the soft gentle sound Of my fathers rich voice While he’s reading out loud From the Bible thats sheltered And compassed around The life of my family In this small country town

She had dark skin, almost the color of pitch. Her hair had been braided and hung down to the middle of her back. She had dyed it red, green and purple. She was about 5’8″ and was wearing a brown corduroy blazer of vintage stock over a garish pink blouse that hung down almost to her knees. She had a backpack that didn’t fit comfortably over the blazer and caused it to ride up in the back. She got on at Union station in the back of the train and walked forward. 5 minutes later, she came back asking people…

How far I’ve come (The Wilful Sunflower) Trust isn’t something that you can instantly demand of yourself; it’s something that tends to grow in you over time, especially when you become comfortable with the person and forget to be wary. Insightful.

I’ve been reading Christopher Morley’s The Haunted Bookshop, a delightful book full of great little observations written in that style so prevalent during the 40’s. I’ve been writing down a bunch of passages that caught my eye, but on the train this morning I ran into one that I had to share. If you love type, you’ll appreciate Aubrey’s (who works in the advertising/publicity business) description of the delightful Miss Titiana,Titania’s face, shining with young vitality, seemed to him more “attention-compelling” than any ten-point Caslon type-arrangement he had ever seen. He admired the layout of her face from the standpoint…

Theologia :: Miscellaneous :: “Jesus Is Lord”: A Practical Suggestion for Struggling with Sin I knew Mark back when he worked at mobap. I worked there also, while I was going to school. This article is very good and dovetails nicely with an article I’m working on regarding faith, and with some posts I’ve made in the past regarding spiritual warfare.

From a quote in an article on the Catholic nature of LOTR comes a gem from Tolkien explaining what hope is and succinctly describes the source for a Christians hope. The scene the passage refers to is that of Aragorn’s death, when Arwen calls Aragorn by his true name, Estel. This scene is illuminated by a remarkable dialogue about death between the High Elf King Finrod and the human woman Andreth. The dialogue goes back to very early times, before the story of Beren and Luthien, the ancient pattern of the story of Aragorn and Arwen. Andreth loves an Elf, Finrod’s…

I spent a couple days with some friends of mine working on lighting setups for interview situations. My friends are into movie making and anything to do with cameras and lenses is of interest to me. I wanted to take some time to write down some of the things I learned while playing the setups. The first and most important observation was that the purpose of lighting is to bring out lines and features of a persons face. The key features of the face to look at when balancing the light are the nose, the jaw line, and the line that…

I’ll admit, this post is prompted more by the fact that there isn’t much on the front page than my anything else. I feel compelled to explain myself, which isn’t, by necessity, a bad thing.Past few weeks have been dull. Not in the sense that there hasn’t been things going on, but in the sense that in spite of the things going on, I still feel a bit empty, like I’ve misplaced my ability to focus on my goals and want very much to take a long long vacation. ;)I got bogged down with a cold a week or so…

Because its the cool thing to do on the block these days, A List Apart has t-shirts. This post is only here so I don’t forget which ones I like when I start buying t-shirts in 2007 (the official Walljm Year of the T-Shirt).Redesign/Realign | XHTML Fist | Warning
